Inevitably, I usually find myself taking tea by myself or with the children. It's
only on a rare occasion that I'll have a tea party. Although it's enjoyable to sit
around drinking tea with other ladies, laughing and sharing stories of faith, it
is a rarity for me. Tea for one or two or five is more the norm.
I really enjoy taking the time to pull out my lace table cloth, candles and actually
making tea in a real teapot. When the kids were younger, time generally wasn't on
my side. I often cheated and made my tea in the coffee maker we bought to make tea.
This didn't ruffle my feathers. I skipped the fancy stuff in place of extra time
to relax and unwind. Now that my little ones aren't so little, I'm able to take
a bit more time for the details. I even get them to help.
When "tea-ing" by yourself or will your "littles," the rule
is... There is no rule! It's what makes you comfy. If you like the big mug that
you got at Disneyland with Mickey Mouse on it, please use it! If you can't live
without your dainty tea cup, use that. Just enjoy yourself and be still to collect
your thoughts. You don't have to make fancy sandwiches or bake a cake just to enjoy
tea. A leftover piece of pie, a piece of good chocolate or an Oreo all work
equally well.
Don't hesitate to offer tea to surprise company. Making your company feel welcome
should be your first priority. Fancy treats are secondary. Crackers and cheese or
a couple packaged cookies are all suitable for surprise occasions. I generally keep
something around that I can pull out on short notice. Frozen cookie dough is wonderful
to make hot, fresh cookies in the time it takes to boil the water.
Tea for one or two can be just as refreshing as a party for 12. It might even be
nicer because with just a little prep, you can enjoy just as much good conversation
and rest.
