"All the fairest beauties in the human soul, its greatest victories and
its most splendid achievements are always those which no one else knows anything
about or can only dimly guess at."
I would like to take the excitement of loving Jesus more, cup it carefully in my
hands and give it to someone who needs it. Alas, we can not cup a feeling in our
hands and sometimes we can’t even explain the feeling with words that will be clearly
understood. Sometimes little triumphs seem trivial to others, so you keep them to
yourself. Sometimes a triumph borders so closely to the supernatural that words
fail to express it. Having been someone who keeps feelings to myself this quote
really spoke to me.
So many times I have experienced a feeling or gone through a situation, where words
can’t express it. I try to make a feeble attempt to explain, but realize that whoever
I am talking to is looking at me as if I had 3 heads. For example, at a particular
time in my life I heard a song that had a verse dealing with tying shoes. A random
thought for probably 99% of the listening audience, but for me at this time that
lyric about tying shoes spoke volumes of encouragement to me. A little known secret
between me and God about stepping out in faith. The triumph of tying my shoes or
how I felt when I heard this song can’t be explained.
There are so many things that happen that are so small, but make a big difference.
Like the atoms that make up "things," they are so little and can’t be
seen and by many can’t be understood, but they are what makes us what we are. They
are what makes us beautiful and victorious.
Prayer: Lord, I love the triumphant feeling! Don't let me get discouraged
trying to explain it to others. Help me to discern what should be left between me
and You and what should be shared with others. It can be frustrating that I can’t
get into the mind of others and understand them and their triumphs, help me to just
trust that you are making them triumphant too.
